Editing Openings
When selecting an opening (for example a
window or door) to edit, the Openings menu opens and allows you to select:
· The Plan tab to edit
the size and positioning of the window and also to add transoms overtop the window,
· The Display tab to open
your doors, change the angle of swing, define number of window sections and hinges, set the depth of a bay
style window, and add window sills.
· The Exterior / Interior
Trim tabs to change the settings for the window trim both inside and outside of the house,
· The Shutter tab to add
shutters and to change the settings for shutters you have added
· The Grille tab to add
grille to your window and change the appearance of that grill,
· The Cabinet Run tab to
change settings that pertain to all cabinets in the run,
· The Misc tab to change
the style of door handles,
· The Treatment tab to
add curtains and curtain components such as curtain rods.
To Edit an Opening
1. Select Edit → Edit Item.
· You may press the esc key
on your keyboard to cancel the Edit Item action.
2. Select the opening (door or window) you wish to modify. The Opening Edit
Menu is displayed:

3. Make Changes to the Plan Settings for an
Opening
i. If not currently displayed, display the Plan settings by selecting the Plan
tab.
ii. Use the following information to make changes to the Plan settings:
Library /
Opening
If you want to choose a different opening from a
different library, click on either the Library or Opening field. The Symbols menu opens. Select the opening you
want to use from the list of available libraries and openings.
Opening
Dimensions
You can customize an opening by placing a check in the
box next to custom size and entering a new width and/or height in the Width and Height
fields.
Position
You can change the height of the opening by entering
in a new height in the Top of Opening field. This height is measured from the top of the opening to the bottom
of the wall (subtracting the slab). For example, if you place a 4’ tall window 4’off the ground, the base of
the window will be flush with base of the interior wall.
Center
Check this item if you want the opening moved and
automatically centered at the mid-point of the wall, between the closest intersecting
walls.
Add Transom
Click on this item if you want to add a transom over
the opening.
· If an identical opening with a transom
exists in the current library, that opening is then used in place of the current
opening.
· If an identical opening with a transom does not exist in the
current library, the Add Transom menu opens:

If necessary, enter a
height for the transom in the Transom Height field, and then select ok. A new opening that
includes a transom is automatically defined, used in place of the current opening.
Note:
When an opening with a transom is used on a drawing,
the height of the opening includes the transom height.
Preview
This area of the menu shows the current appearance of
the opening.
4. To Make Changes to the Display Settings for an
Opening
i. Select the Display tab.

ii. Use the following information to make changes to the
Display settings:
Reverse Door Swing
Use this
menu item to open the door on the reverse side of the wall.
Note:
If the
opening is a patio door or a sliding door, use this item to specify that the other section of the door is to be
operational.
Door Swing
The menu
item Door Swing allows you to change the angle of the door swing. To
do this, check Door
Swing, and then enter a new angle from 1 to 180 degrees in the Door Swing
field.
Hinge Side
Doors
and casement windows can be divided into equally spaced sections (see the following section Number of Sections for more
information). Use the Hinge Side menu item to specify the side of
the section to place the hinge for each door or casement section in the opening.
To set
the hinge side in the Hinge
Side field, type N for non-operational casement sections and doors, type R to place the hinge on the right
side, and L to place the
hinge on the left side for operational casement sections and doors.
For
example, if you have a casement window with 2 sections, if you specify NL in the field, then the left
side will be non-operational and the right side will have the hinges placed on the left hand
side.
Number of Sections
If you
are customizing a window or door, you can specify the number of equally spaced sections in the
opening.
To do
this, enter in the number of sections you want (1-7) in the Number of Sections field.
Sill
Check
this item to make the sill items available.
Sill
Side
- Use this menu item to select the side of the opening that the sill is to
be on. The Sill Side
drop-down menu allows you to choose Up and Down for a horizontal opening and Right and Left for a vertical
opening.
Sill
Type
- Use this menu item to select the type of sill you want on your opening.
You can choose None, Cast, Brick, or Wood.
Bay Options
Bay Depth
- The depth of a bay is measured from the inside edge of the wall to the inside
edge of the bay. To change the depth, enter the new value in the Bay
Depth field.
Open
This option is applied only to doors. By placing a
check next to Open, you
are selecting to have that door open. By removing the check the door is closed.
5. To Make Changes to the Trim
Settings for an Opening
i. Select the Exterior Trim or the
Interior Trim
tabs. The Trim settings allow you to place interior trim on
the opening, and to define the exterior appearance of the opening.

ii. Use the following information to make changes to the
Exterior Trim settings:
Exterior Trim
Check this
item to define what material will be used for the exterior trim of the opening. If exterior trim has been
specified, it will be shown on the exterior side of the opening.
Material
- You can choose to use Wood, Vinyl, Brick, or Cast exterior trim on the opening.
Change Profiles
- If you have chosen wood, vinyl, or cast exterior trim, you can modify the trim
by selecting the Change
Profiles button. The Change Profiles menu opens:

To
select the appearance of the exterior trim, click on either the Trim
Library or Trim Name field. The symbols menu
opens:

The
Library section of the menu lists the Interior Casing and
Exterior Trim libraries.
· The Symbol section of the menu shows the available profile
appearances for the currently selected library, in this case the Exterior Trim library. If necessary, select
the new profile appearance for the casing from the Symbol section (the Preview box shows the current profile), and then select ok from the
menu.
Inset
If you are
using Wood, Vinyl, or Cast trim, you may inset the trim by placing a check in the box next to Inset. This means that the trim will be mounted directly on the window frame instead
of placed on the exterior wall, unattached to the window.

Taper
If you are
using a brick trim with a keystone, check this item if you would like to
slope the trim of an opening. The slope of any tapered trim will match that of the keystone.
Corner
Block
If you have
trim on your window you can also choose to add a decorative corner block. Check this field to add and
customize the appearance of the corner block. To do this, check
Select Corner Block, and use the 3-D name drop down menu to
choose the appearance of the corner block.
Keystone
Use the
fields in this section to customize the appearance of the keystone above the opening. Note that as you change
the information in this section, the current appearance of the keystone will be displayed in the Preview section of the menu.
iii. The Interior Trim settings are set using the same method described in
setting the Exterior Trim settings.
6. To Make Changes to the Shutter Settings for an
Opening
i. Select the
Shutter
tab:

The
Shutter settings are used to place shutters on an
opening.
ii. Use the following
information to make changes to the Shutter
settings:
Shutter
When you
check this item you can place shutters on the opening and define their appearance.
Shutter Library
Use this
item to select the library you want to select a shutter from.
Shutter Style
Use this
item to select the shutter you want to use on the opening. Note that as you change the information in this
section, the current appearance of the opening with its shutter will be displayed in the Preview section of the menu.
Adjust Width to Cover
Opening
Check
this item to adjust the width of the shutter such that it would cover the opening if the shutter were closed.

Adjust Height to Cover Opening
If your
opening includes another opening part that adds additional height, for example includes a transom, you can
check this item to adjust the shutter height to be equal to the total height of the opening. See
Figure 26.

Left / Both / Right
Use the
radio buttons to select the side or sides of the opening to have shutters.
7. To Make Changes to the
Grille Settings for an Opening
i. Select the Grille tab:

ii. Use the following information to make changes to the
Grille settings:
Grille
Check
this item to place a grille on the opening.
Width
- To set the width of the sections in the grille, check Width, and then enter the width
in the Width field.
Height
- To set the height of the sections in the grille, check Height, and then enter the height
in the Height field.
Sections (Rings)
- This item applies only to round and oval window styles. Use it to set the
number of section rings that the grille in the opening is divided into. In Figure 27, note that the grille on
the oval window is divided into 3 section rings.
Sections (Spokes)
- This item applies only to round and oval window styles. Use it to set the
number of equally spaced section spokes in the grille. In Figure 27, note that the grille on the oval window
has 8 equally spaced section spokes.

Space Grilles
Equal
- This item applies only to round, oval and round top window styles. Use it
to equally space the section rings of the grille. See Figure 28.

Grille Top Only
- This item applies only to openings with multiple vertical sections such as
Single Hung and Double Hung window styles. Check this item if you want to place a grille on the top
section of the opening only. See Figure 29.

Prairie Grille Style
- This item applies to rectangular openings only. Check this item if you
would like to add a prairie style grille to the opening. See Figure 30.

8. To Make Changes to the Misc
Settings for an Opening
i. Select the Misc tab:

ii. Use the following information to make changes to the
Misc settings:
Right/Left
Hardware
If you are
editing a door, the Right/Left Hardware section becomes
available.

Use this
section to specify the door handle hardware that is to be used on each door side.
Currently
the door will use the default hardware. If you do not want to use the default hardware:
i. Check the section title: Right/Left Hardware.
ii. Place a check next to Select
Hardware.
iii. From the Interior/Exterior 3D Folder field, select the 3D Symbols folder that
contains door handle styles, for example, Door
Hardware.
iv.
From the Interior/Exterior 3D Name
field, select the style of door handle you want to use for that side of the door.
9. To Make Changes to the Treatment Settings for an
Opening
i. Select the Treatment
tab:

ii. Use the following
information to make changes to the Treatment
settings:
Treatment
Finish
Use the drop down menu to select the finish styles that will be applied to
the curtains, rods and hardware.
Curtain
If
you want to place curtains on your window, place a check in the box next to Curtain. In the Curtain Library drop down
menu, select Curtain. In the Curtain Style drop down menu
select the curtain style you want. Note that the word open in the
style name indicates that the curtain will be open and that you will be able to see outside through the
window.
Rod
If
you want your curtain to be hung on a rod, place a check in the box next to Rod. In the Rod Library drop down menu, select Rod. In the Rod Style drop down menu, you
will be able to define the diameter of the curtain rod.
Bracket
If
you want your curtain rod to be suspended with a bracket, place a check in the box next to Bracket. In the Bracket Library drop down menu, select Bracket. In the Bracket Style drop down menu, you will be able to select the style and
size of bracket you want.
Finial
If
you want your curtain rod to be include a finial (the decorative piece at the end of a curtain rod), place a
check in the box next to Finial. In the Finial Library drop down menu,
select Finial. In
the Finial Style drop
down menu, you will be able to select the style of finial to be placed on the end of the rod.
10. Select ok when you have finished
making changes to the opening.
